On Wednesday 8th August 2018, TUM hosted the delegation from Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani led by the Mombasa County Deputy Governor Hon. William Kingi and his two counterparts from Kwale and Lamu Counties for a consultative forum. They deliberated on how the six coastal counties in conjunction with TUM can come up with funds generating activities for job creation for the coastal youths and other professionals. This project focuses on tackling the issue of unemployment in the region. In attendance were the officials from the European Union Mr. Herbert and Ms. Hanina.
Addressing the meeting Ambassador Benjamin Mweri said that currently they have received cashew nuts and coconuts seedlings from India and they are currently undergoing screening at Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) Matuga. This is an initial stage of reviving the production and processing of the 4 coastal value chain including Mango and Banana production. This project set to create approximately 5000 jobs to the youth hence boosting the region’s socio-economic growth.
